The tag

From the lovely Lolabola. Five things you may well not know about me:

1) I really like the Stephen Avenue 'trees', but I agree with this evaluation of how they don't quite enhance the pedestrian experience.

2) The book I have on the go, White Teeth, pisses me off because the writer doesn't take any of her characters seriously. I think flippancy is condescending.

3) I always imagine explaining to someone why I don't like Stephen Harper so that I am sure of myself, but no one ever asks so I am never challenged. I think they don't ask because they don't care, which depresses me - not that they're uninterested in my opinion but that they're uninterested in political ideology.

4) The doctor found a small lump in my breast in October. I spent two weeks feeling very frightened, then two weeks not worried at all, until I saw a specialist. He figured it was a cyst, so he tried to burst it with a needle but no fluid came out. He told me to come back in two months if it doubled in size. It didn't, so I didn't. But it is still there. Last month, I wondered if I should be doing something about it. Should I worry? I started to worry. I called the clinic. The nurse was straight-forward and understanding. She said that I was free to come back or not to come back; it was my decision. Then she told me to know my breasts. I decided to sit on it and see where my mind went. I have not worried since, and so I have not gone back, but I might. Meanwhile, I monitor my breasts.

5) I think boys look better in make-up than girls.

I really dislike those trees, except ironically for the base of them which is an area I really like being around. It always makes me think of you and your B and one time we all sat out there in between some kind of running around. the tops all stuffed in that space with their somehow 80's slats make me dizzy and quite anxious. great article on them though.

I'm reading "The Rebel Sell, why the culture can't be jammed" it's soo good. Gift from B. Made me so happy when it proceeded to pick apart "American Beauty", which I despise, and for similar reasons. (do you get it? *smack* is it cliched enough for you? *smack* how about if we shove this idea down your throat like this? *smack* isn't this a brilliant attack on our culture? *smack*)

So....why don't you like Harper hmmmn?

my cysty thing is still there too. Like an old acquaintance from high school that keeps popping up in my psyche. (and I keep making sure it's there and now almost worry when it isn't, like it may have gone deeper or something. Applying that to HS acquaintance idea is rather funny no?)

boys do look so much better in makeup. but as you know, I think we all look like assholes in makeup (not that I don't slap it on from time to time ;)

I'm coming to visit from Sunday Aug. 10 to the Wed. following. YAY!

I forgot about that day. Wasn't your B there, too?

That movie bugged me too. Not exactly subtle. That book (haven't read but looks great) makes me think of the whole 'going green' thing and how it's just another consumption category.

Ha! I used to think he was a good politician, even if I didn't agree with his worldview at all - at least he seemed to consistently represent something - but now I think he's just really opportunistic, milking people's tendencies to get caught up in irrelevant things - like branding! - so he can win votes. But what I meant here was less him and more the worldview he represents. I just fundamentally disagree with the me-before-us philosophy, the individual right to make/spend money over all else (that's so cold!), but that's what his party has always been about so that's nothing new.

Funny how you can be preoccupied with it for a week and poke it a lot and then days will go by and you won't even think about it. The idea of a deeply-embedded HSA is pretty funny.

I've been wearing mascara from time to time now that the weather has warmed up and my eyelashes won't freeze and then melt it off. It sure looks smashing, but it would look better on B.

Great, I can't wait. Is B coming with?
